DETAILS
Utilizing a collaborative research model in which multiple researchers and facilities agree to investigate and conduct one research project in an effort to increase sample sizes and generalizable results, “ManyOtters” has created a large-scale collaboration to investigate cognitive projects with otters (all species) utilizing a network of scientists representing multiple zoos/aquariums, including Beardsley Zoo. The initial ManyOtters project (MO1) is investigating otter long-term memory using novel puzzle feeders. Ultimately, we expect that our findings will have applications for animal welfare in zoos and can inform conservation efforts for otters.
